FBI Special Agent Caitlin Diggs faces a paranormal killer when a crystal takes over a teen and leads her on a chase across the country. Empowering the teen with supernatural abilities, the crystal exacts revenge on descendants of soldiers responsible for the Sand Creek Massacre, but it also has a taste for neurotransmitter serotonin, which it needs from humans to continue its consciousness.Agent Diggs is the only FBI agent in the bureau to consider extreme possibilities and surmises the teen has a means to track his victims' via DNA. A heart-pounding cat-and-mouse game ensues as Diggs attempts to fool the teen into thinking she is his next victim, but as she plays with fire, a former military man begins to see the crystal as the perfect ingredient for a mind control weapon. Because the crystal possesses sentience, it can counter Diggs' plan for its demise and possibly exert mind control over her as well. Can Diggs stop this biological internet from taking more victims, becoming a tool for mass mind control, and resist the lure of its blood web? 1. What does Barack Obama's re-election campaign have in common with a dusty box of black and white photographs found in a Cardiff studio? The answer is something that we are all a part of - communities. The way in which Obama's team drove engagement with the US electorate is fabled. Online and offline, people came together to spread the campaign's messages across the country. Less well known is how Jon Pountney, who found the Cardiff photos, reached out across the web and into the local community to try and identify the faces captured in them. Piece by piece, this community constructed a story of the photos, which in turned out to be a remarkable slice from the city's history. In Connected, Hannah Waldram, Ed Walker and Marc Thomas explore examples from across the world which demonstrate that social media is a hugely powerful tool, but it is when it combines with physical communities - spurring action, amplifying a message, organizing movements - that it becomes truly transformative. It is a fascinating insight into how communities can be so much greater than the sum of their parts, and how the power of the internet has become seamlessly woven into community action. The authors also offer practical steps for how to make the most of communities and harness their potential. 1. Language: English. Narrator: Anna Parker-Naples. A full-fledged pilot for several years, Sharon McCone is due for the biannual flight review required by the FAA. Her former flight instructor, Matty Wildress, invites her to fly up to the small Sonoma County town of Los Alegres for the evaluation. The test isn't due for several months, however, and McCone suspects Matty has more than safe flying on her mind. She's right. Matty's live-in lover, John Seabrook, has been gone for a week, abandoning his small son, Zach. In a desperate letter, John entrusts the boy to her care, urging them to go into hiding immediately. But Matty is a professional and determined to perform in the last aerobatic air show of the year. Despite the extra security, something goes horribly wrong - and Matty's plane crashes before a stunned crowd of spectators. McCone knows it's no accident and vows to find John for Zach's sake. Suddenly, an ordinary missing person case becomes a personal vendetta. Together with her lover, Hy Ripinsky, McCone bypasses the authorities to hunt down the man responsible for Matty's death. Her search will take her across the country as she uncovers the startling details of John Seabrook's past - killings, flight, and assumed identities. From San Francisco to Florida to Arkansas to northern Minnesota, she'll unravel an insidious web of corruption between a major corporation and high government, where power and profit are supreme...and murder is a tool of the trade. And somewhere in the midst of it all, she'll confront a killer with a heart as cold and dark as the northern night. 1. Language: English. Narrator: Jean Reed Bahle. "If a website is usable in one country it is not necessary usable in another country, for that it is essential to consider the user and his/her culture who needs to use the website". Website users around the world belong to different cultures. Members of a particular culture share a common lifestyle, and to some extent they have their own way of viewing, thinking, understanding and doing things. This book explains the relationship between websites and the anthropologists' cultural dimensions in terms of web usability. Five different groups of anthropological dimensions of culture and cultural markers are proposed: E-culture, Stable, Broad, Variable, and Vista. The five groups are organized as levels in a pyramid, and in this way they allow for different degrees of website localization: from 1 (little localization) to 5 (full localization). Next, this pyramid is formally represented in a conceptual data model, the "Cultural Conceptual Model (C2M)", using Object Role Modelling (ORM). Based on the findings, a software tool called the Localized Website Design Advisor, or "LWDA", was built to dynamically generate localized website specifications and guidelines.
Disease surveillance is an ongoing process involving the systematic collection, analysis, interpretation and dissemination of health data. This requires the collection and analysis of varied and relatively large amounts of data, from and about the locations where diseases and related health problems occur and from where patients present themselves, typically in urban and rural health centres and hospitals. The quality of data and its transformation into information are basic to the efficiency and effectiveness of all information systems. The web-based data entry system for disease surveillance is a reporting tool to be used by all disease surveillance centres (health facilities) in reporting cases to sub-district, district, regional and national levels. It is a web technology which shall send the data to a central database server. The application will provide web-based data screens for data entry. With a web-based data entry system, data can be entered anywhere in the country and this will be sent to the remote database server at the National Disease Surveillance Department. The system will provide web screens for the entry, management and querying of core demographic and diseases.
