Diploma Thesis from the year 2006 in the subject Computer Science - Applied, grade: 1,0, Free University of Berlin (Institut für Informatik), language: English, abstract: Due to the heterogeneous structure of the public sector, the achievement of interoperability is a key challenge for comprehensive electronic government. Service-oriented architectures lay the foundation for flexible application integration and process-orientation through Web service composition. Semantically enriched Web services promise to increase the level of automation and to reduce integration efforts significantly. Furthermore, a relatively high degree of formality in key areas of government activities encourages the application of Semantic Web concepts. This diploma thesis presents an approach for semi-automatically supporting the design and execution of data flows within the composition of semantically described Web services that are making use of different ontologies and data representations. The approach includes a rule-based mechanism for user-transparent mediation between ontologies. In order to validate the approach, a prototypical cross-ontology Semantic Web service composition tool has been implemented to be used in eGovernment scenarios spanning multiple application domains. The essence of this thesis was presented at the European Semantic Web Conference 2006 at the Workshop on eGovernment and Semantic Web and is published in the paper.

Expert Spring MVC and Web Flows shows the reader how to use the Spring Web application development framework found in the extremely popular, open source Spring Framework. Picking up where the best selling Pro Spring left off, Expert Spring MVC and Web Flows covers Spring's Model-View-Controller (MVC) code packages, HTTP, best practices for Web application development, and integration with popular third-party utilities. This book also features the new Spring Web Flow system, a cutting edge workflow system being introduced in Spring 1.3. The Web Flow system provides the perfect compliment to the existing MVC system, rounding out Spring's robust and powerful Web development framework. The Spring MVC book will also pay special attention to existing Apache Struts-based Web applications. It shows the different options to integrate Struts code to take advantage of the power of the Spring Framework. The authors will also provide a porting guide, detailing how to port a Struts application into Spring MVC. This book will bridge the gap from the most popular web framework to the most popular application framework. The authors develop a sample application throughout the book, building on the application as a tool to introduce new material. They also plan on developing a small NetFlix/GameFly service for the example source code, believing that using a consistent application will provide context for all new features introduced and motivate their use in real-world practice. TOC:1) Getting Started with Spring MVC and Web Flows 2) Spring Fundamentals 3) Spring Application Architecture 4) Spring MVC Components (may split this chapter) 5) The V in MVC 6) Spring Web Flow 7) Acegi Security Framework and Web Applications 8) Testing Web Applications 9) Integrating with 3rd Party Frameworks 10) Porting from Struts
